Memorial Scholarship

Emily is the daughter of Kimberly Spayd of Hudson.  She is a senior at Weld Central High School and is planning to attend CSU in Fort Collins.  After becoming involved in her high school's Ag program, it became clear that she wanted to pursue a degree in agricultural education.  Helping, guiding, and teaching others has always been a passion of hers since a young age. By her junior year, Emily was devoting more time within the ag classrooms, helping and learning whatever skills she could for her future career. This past year, her senior year, she has been given the opportunity to job shadow both of her ag teachers, gaining valuable knowledge to become a great teacher. Seeing the FFA program gain members, support, and strengthen throughout high school has given her a large career goal. Emily would like help to create a chapter within an urban school that doesn't have an agricultural program.

Emily is a 12-year member of Wagoneer's 4H Club and has participated in food preservation/water boil canning, artistic clothing cake decorating, market swine and market goats.  Throughout her journey in 4H she held 3 different officer positions:  club song leader, secretary and vice president.  With all of the connections and skills Emily built as a leader, she was able to gain citizenship skills. Being able to correlate with others to create better humans who are respectful, helpful, exude positivity and above all become great leaders in their own way.  Looking back, she has had her share of awards within her projects, but her major accomplishments differ from that. She is quite proud to say that she has been able to impact others within her 4H club and community in an uplifting manner. She has talked a good amount about her growth, but the best part was seeing those around her find their spark, talents, and grow as well. Being able to mentor younger members in projects she was familiar with and create long-lasting relationships has truly been the greatest accomplishment of all.

Emily is the recipient of the Helmut and Bob Brunner Memorial Scholarship.
