Family Scholarship

Tayla is the daughter of Nate and Becky Wiedeman of Eaton.  She is a Senior at Eaton High School and is looking to attend Texas Tech in Lubbock, TX.  She plans to major in Agricultural Communications and minoring in Plant and Soil Sciences. With these degrees, she hopes to make a positive impact in the agricultural community by promoting sustainability and finding ways to produce crops with less water without sacrificing yields.  Tayla holds a deep passion for agriculture and feels it is necessary to educate the general public on everything that agriculture provides for our world. She feels Agricultural Communications will set up a future for herself that will allow her to be an AG-vocate. Coming from a farming background, She also understands the importance of advancing technologies within agriculture. Plant and Soil sciences gives her an opportunity to dive deeper into developing technologies. These two areas of study combined will allow Tayla to preserve the image of agriculture and continue to find ways to make agriculture more sustainable.

Tayla is an 11-year member of the Country Boots and Skirts 4H Club and her projects included Market Lambs, Breeding sheep and market sheep.  The determination that she learned from her years showing lambs, dealing with difficult lamb personalities, facing strange animal illnesses and injuries, and ultimately her personal challenges gave Tayla the motivation to work harder for a successful 4H year. The obstacles faced this past year has provided her with a confidence that even when life looks pretty bleak, being determined will allow her to conquer challenges that life will inevitably throw at her.  Tayla had a desire to become more invested into 4H and the opportunities that are available to its members from the start. She ran for office within her club, and was elected secretary, treasurer and has been the president of the club for the past four years. Taking on these leadership roles has provided Tayla many opportunities to work with many different personality types and she learned that not one leadership style always works. She also was selected to be a Weld County Junior Livestock Sale Youth Ambassador and has been a part of this group for the past 9 years. These positions have also provided Tayla with the ability to work on her organizational and time management skills.

Tayla is the recipient of the Paul and Jean Hoshiko Memorial Scholarship.
