(College) Scholarship

Emily is the daughter of Bryan and Amy Hogsett of Eaton.  She is a Junior at CSU in Ft. Collins and is majoring in FCS (Family Consumer Science) Education.  After graduating from CSU, she plans to be a Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) teacher at the high school level. She wants to teach students the life skills needed to have a successful life in the areas of human development, nutrition, cooking, sewing, design, financial literacy, economics, life choices, and career development.  She is a part of the College of Health and Human Sciences Dean’s Ambassador Program and work to advocate for her degree and the education program. This gives her the opportunity to connect with faculty, administration, other students within the college, donors, alumni, and prospective students.

Emily is an 11-year member of the Galeton 4H Club.  She was first introduced to 4H through her mom’s cake decorating, which inspired her to become a cake decorator when she joined 4H.  She was a part of cake decorating all her years in 4H where she learned skills such as budgeting, interviewing, marketing, and organization. These skills are seen in all she does.  She also participated in clothing construction, artistic clothing, breeding beef, scrapbooking, sport fishing visual arts and home design, and décor.  learned about FCS, being a leader, being a community member, and being a teacher through 4H. Emily didn’t realize that when she joined 4H that a seed would be planted that would grow into the passion she has for FCS today. Her passion and desire to teach FCS has continued through her time at CSU. 4H gave Emily more than just the skills she learned; it gave her memories, friendships, open doors, and the perfect career.

Emily is the recipient of the Weld County 4H Leaders Council (College) Scholarship.
